From college sweethearts to everlasting love

Moving into your college dorm freshman year typically means meeting a lot of new people and for Katie and Faris, it also meant meeting their future spouse. Santa Barbara was the setting for the first chapter in their love story, and though they now call New York City home, it was important to bring their nearest and dearest back to where they met and what Katie calls “the most beautiful place in the world.” When it came to choosing where in sunny Santa Barbara they’d host their wedding, Kimpton Canary Hotel and its gorgeous rooftop with its stunning views felt ideal for their intimate wedding of 100 guests. Looking back, it was the perfect choice. “We will always remember the beautiful rooftop ceremony and how happy everyone was,” they said.

Katie was able to turn her room at Kimpton Canary into a special “getting ready suite,” where she was joined by her mom, mother-in-law, sister and maid of honor. Close friends could pop in and out for morning coffee, well wishes and to admire her Martina Liana gown throughout the morning.

“Finch and Fork was my favorite restaurant when I lived in Santa Barbara so it was great to have all of the amazing food at our wedding from there.”

The ceremony took place on Kimpton Canary’s rooftop terrace. Vows were exchanged in front of a stunning floral arch designed by Idlewild Floral. A clear day meant the mountains in the distance made for a picture perfect background—exactly what the bride had hoped for.

Guests enjoyed dinner from Finch & Fork in the Riviera ballroom with a live jazz band providing the soundtrack for the meal. The reception was back on the roof with a DJ and saxophonist helping to get the crowd on the dance floor (it was “AWESOME”). Dessert was a selection of the couple’s favorite cookie sandwiches and cupcakes from local bakery Enjoy Cupcakes.
